Forum Rules

The corridor runs long and lonesome until you come upon a great room, barely lit by torches. Soft blue light emanates from crystal orbs within, casting sapphire shades across the stone walls. Many astute wizards peer into their globes and cast intricate spells, punishing or sending warnings off to members who are breaking the ancient and respected Creed of LegendFire. At that precise moment there is a flash and a cloud of smoke appears before you, delivering a message unto your very mind:

“Students of the Academy of LegendFire are not welcome in the Seers room. Be gone!”

Your eyes open to see that you are now alone within the student's lounge. Words are emblazoned in the back of your mind, ones that should never be forgotten: the rules of the Academy.

The Creed of LegendFire

Foul Words:

While within the premises of the Academy of LegendFire, one should be mindful of their word choices. We wish to treat all as mature individuals and expect you to act as such. Let it be known that those caught using foul words, in an abusive manner, will be punished by means of the Seers' choice.

Flame Wars:

Impolite bickering between members and guests here in the Academy is unacceptable. Nothing is gained by it, and usually these verbal fights serve only to upset both sides of the conflict. Because of this, all flame wars and direct flaming of other members are expressly forbidden under penalty of warning and possible exile. Do not test our resolve; we will ensure that no one abuses this rule, because the feelings of all involved are very important to us.

Just agree to disagree, should civilized debate no longer be an option.

Rating of Posts:

Here in the Academy you are required to rate any and all literature you post that would be considered above the PG mark, including uploaded files. This is to prevent other members being unexpectedly offended by any mature or explicit content posted within the Academy. We house a number of students whose ages and interpretations of the word 'offensive' vary greatly, so discretion rules the day.

A simple addition of 'Mature Content' to the beginning of the thread would be acceptable for stories that are not too extreme. Anything exceptionally taboo (detailed sexual content, ultra-violence, consistent profanity) should be labeled along the lines of "Restricted Content - not suitable for children."

We thank you in advance for respecting this rule. Freedom of expression is very important to us; however, we wish to ensure this community is pleasant for all of our students.

Degrading Other Members:

Etiquette is invaluable when dealing with other students. You must not, at any time, speak in such a way that diminishes others for what you perceive to be a lack of knowledge or talent. This is one of the most dishonorable things you can do here at LegendFire. violators will be dealt with severely and promptly.

This includes criticism; keep it constructive and polite. Of course, most writers desire honesty, but there is no reason to be insensitive in the way you present your opinions or corrections. A writer will often learn nothing but a lesson in the uncouth ways of some people when you are insulting or rude.

Spamming:

The Academy of LegendFire does not permit its members to spout jabbered sentences of non-relative material within any given forum. If you so desire to spread meaningless or fruitless words within the Academy, so be it, the Seers have been given full right to deal with each matter accordingly.

If you wish to advertise your website, please post your website information within the Creative Websites forum. Posting your website in any other forum will be considered spam. Also, please limit the amount of ale you consume per night, as it does affect your writing!

New Thread Limitations:

We know how exciting it is to present a well-written piece to the Academy and receive feedback, however, we would ask you to limit the amount of new threads started in a single day within each forum to three. Too many stories/poetry presented to the Academy will reduce the chance of your receiving quick and in-depth feedback.

Private Messaging (PM) & Mail Violating:

The Academy of LegendFire provides its services to students to use the PM and E-Mail services. We do not tolerate any harassment, spamming, or any other ill use of our mediums. If someone is breaking these rule by making ill use of these mediums and pestering you, please contact an administrator with a copy of the messages the member is sending you, and that person will be dealt with accordingly.

LegendFire General Tips

Give Thanks to Those Who Help:

When someone has spent a long period of time critiquing your work, please be courteous and thank him or her for the time and feedback given. Members of the Academy are very willing to help each other, though if you are not social, humble, and always thankful, you will find that many other students might avoid your work.

Give Others Feedback:

Please provide others with feedback before you request feedback. If everyone is willing to give feedback, then everyone will receive feedback. Once you take without giving, you throw off the system and someone will end up not receiving feedback.

Do or do not, there is no try:

If you have nothing informative to say about the item you are reading, dont feel obliged to say anything. It is better to have those who were touched by the story or poem reply, than someone who didn’t think much of it leave a bland comment like: I liked it, good job.
