Introductions

New members! Please introduce yourself here first. Though the tavern is crowded and boisterous, it brings a sense of comfort and well-being. The barkeeper welcomes you to a seat and hands you a pint of ale. "Seems you've come from afar," the keeper says with a warm smile. "Why don't you tell us a little about yourself?"

AndLo  : (6 minutes ago) Back to what you were saying...you're a woman. Do you think portrayals are more accurate these days?
AndLo  : (7 minutes ago) Everyone's a reporter these days. Just go on facebook.
AndLo  : (7 minutes ago) Oh I know.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (8 minutes ago) There is more to "media" than newspapers and such
AndLo  : (9 minutes ago) Ah the press. What a useless institution that's become.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (9 minutes ago) Anyway, the role of women in media has changed drastically. It shows how culture, pertaining to women, has changed.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (10 minutes ago) Heck, there is a commercial out with her and has a clip of Marilyn Monroe in it. And she's the reason the popularity of Charlize in her birth country has apparently gone through the roof. (Lots of miscellaneous, useless knowlege.)
AndLo  : (10 minutes ago) She's one of my favorites.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (11 minutes ago) Charlize Theron is an actress that can dress minimally and still be taken seriously.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (12 minutes ago) Look at James Bond movies.
AndLo  : (12 minutes ago) Charlize Theron in "Monster" - perfect example.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (12 minutes ago) female bad guys in movies today aren't brainless nor eye candy, in general
AndLo  : (12 minutes ago) I know who the character is but I never saw the show.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (13 minutes ago) So did I, actually. And in Smallville, I much preferred Lex.
AndLo  : (13 minutes ago) I was a kid. I just remember not being interested much. I always liked bad guys (male or female) when I was younger.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (14 minutes ago) It was a comedy. She wasn't an idiot that had to be rescued all the time.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (14 minutes ago) *wasn't a complete idiot
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (15 minutes ago) By one Batman cartoon from the last decade, I think, Lois Lane had a brain. And in Smallville, she's competent in live action.
AndLo  : (15 minutes ago) I think everyone on that show was an idiot. But I get your point.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (15 minutes ago) By Lois and Clark, she was a complete idiot.
AndLo  : (15 minutes ago) You mean the typical "helpless female in danger"?
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (16 minutes ago) The original Lois needed to be rescued every episode, for the most part.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (16 minutes ago) Not the plot, the presentation. Lois Lane, for example.
AndLo  : (16 minutes ago) I know the basic plot.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (16 minutes ago) How about looking at Superman. Have you ever watched Superman?
AndLo  : (17 minutes ago) I have to be honest. I don't think I've ever read a single romance novel. I'd be way out of turn if I offered an opinion. What do you think though?
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (18 minutes ago) Look at romance novels, for example. How has the role of women in novels written predominantly for women changed?
AndLo  : (18 minutes ago) The shady area is when they present what they want to present and ONLY what they want to present - and then pawn it off as some sort of objective look at something.
AndLo  : (19 minutes ago) I guess that's unavoidable to a certain extent. Everyone has some sort of agenda when they set out to write something. Otherwise, they probably wouldn't write it in the first place.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (21 minutes ago) How its worded.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (21 minutes ago) Actually, what people produce is as much a study of them as anything else. I used to grab old sociology books and other such for research into live in earlier decades. As how something was written and perceived is as much a study of the person writing it, and the time period, as what was written.
AndLo  : (23 minutes ago) I agree. "The Wire" is cynical, angry, and pretty much dead-on in it's depictions of a broke city - but it's also a TV show. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the point of a sociology course should be the subject itself.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (27 minutes ago) I read some stuff in school that was so bad I would have accepted Twilight as a more reasonable substitute. I never did care for sparkling vampires.
AndLo  : (37 minutes ago) It's my favorite as far as TV goes. I'm kind of scratching my head at the whole college cirriculum thing.
jj1027  : (38 minutes ago) I have seen it on tv
AndLo  : (38 minutes ago) Yeah. It was an HBO series that ran for five seasons from 2002 to 2008.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (39 minutes ago) Its a tv show?
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (39 minutes ago) That forum-based, social website?
jj1027  : (39 minutes ago) what is the wire? I know its a tv show, but that's all I know
AndLo  : (41 minutes ago) I'm reading some articles about how certain colleges are using "The Wire" in sociology and writing courses.
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (45 minutes ago) Not a whole lot
AndLo  : (46 minutes ago) what's up, Dreaming?
.L.Dreaming of ...  : (49 minutes ago) good evening
AndLo  : (Today, 06:36 PM) Nice job, bro.
jj1027  : (Today, 06:31 PM) Not much. Finished part 8 of my story. posting it later
AndLo  : (Today, 06:25 PM) what's up, jj?
jj1027  : (Today, 06:24 PM) Hello all!
AndLo  : (Yesterday, 08:45 PM) @Tisiphone - yeah they have it in the back of Starbucks every Wednesday night.
AndLo  : (Yesterday, 08:34 PM) congrats, Jessie.
JJessie  : (Yesterday, 08:31 PM) Wanted to thank everyone for the bday wishes..brightened my day..been too busy writing the last of 3 novels here recently..almost finished..
