Some of you may remember Devon, a member who was very active before the auction, as well as moderator over at Writers Beat. She got in touch with me yesterday and was pleased to announce that her story "The Deeper the Lust, the Sweeter the Flesh" was recently accepted by Aphelion, Webzine for Science Fiction and Fantasy.
The story started out as a contest entry, right here at LF! Devon wanted to let you all know, so that you can take hope in the possibility that the work you post here can find a home in the published world as well. Take heart and keep writing!
Congratulations, Devon!

Aw, congrats to Devon!
That is encouraging to hear. Though I can't say I've posted much here. I've been more of a feedback giver person it seems.

Taken from If You Want to Write by Brenda Ueland (used only the first (and sometimes second) lines of each point to simplify list):
Quote
If you want to write:
1. Know that you have talent, are original and have something important to say.
2. Know that it is good to work. Work with love and think of liking it when you do it.
3. Write freely, recklessly, in first drafts.
4. Tackle anything you want to.
5. Don't be afraid of writing bad stories. To discover what is wrong with a story write two new ones and then go back to it.
6. Don't fret or be ashamed of what you have written in the past.
7. Try to discover your true, honest, untheoretical self.
8. Think of yourself as an incandescent power, illuminated perhaps...
9. If you are never satisfied with what you write, that is a good sign. It means your vision can see so far that it is hard to come up to it.
10. When discouraged remember what Van Gogh said: "If you hear a voice inside of you saying: you are no painter, then paint by all means, lad, and that voice will be silenced, but only by working."
11. Don't be afraid of yourself when you write.
12. Don't always be appraising yourself, wondering if you are better or worse than other writers.

Wow, many congratulations Devon! That is certainly awesome news!
I have a feeling this will be the added snowflake that avalanches into more of your stories in print! Keep up the fantastic work!
(Enough exclamation marks, anyone?

No, way! Bring on the high-fat, high-calorie awesome!
And, yeah, I'm pretty sure Devon has had quite a bit of her material published. That's why it was sooo nice to have her around. She shared her wonderful experience with us all.

In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway. ~ Tyler Durden

Yeah, I know what you mean,Debaser. She did say in the PM that she was going to try to be more active around here again, but she is a very busy gal. Helping to run Writers Beat, along with their newsletter, plus her own writing, plus all the non-writer stuff, you guys know what I mean. At least once she was known to say that she gets up at 5am just to get some writing done. Yikes! Don't know about you, but I'm not quite that dedicated.

Is this a crowning moment of awesome?
Or an awesome moment of crowning?
Maybe both at once?

Marriage is an institution. I tried it once. I don't like being institutionalized.
