I've done this in class and I also know there are writing workshops that do this, so I figured why not try the same online? For those not familiar with the activity, it is akin to a collective brainstorming. The process is fairly simple: we start with a silhouette of a character (in my class we started with a college student), and then proceed forward by asking "what" and "why" questions, until we form a decent (and bizarre) outline/idea for a story! The main advantage to this exercise is that we have lots of minds and imaginations working together to twist and exaggerate the situation and character to form something truly unique and very interesting.

Ditto, I like this. Especially Whiteknight's suggestion of a competition... I think it'd be quite interesting if there was a list of Q/A and you had to generate a story from them.

The Urban Fantasy Challenge and the Creature Creator have very good questions that have done well on the challenge forum. I modded those a bit for my Superhero/Villain challenge.
